Specify component packaging in your RFQ
Include your packaging requirements alongside the complete MPN and quantity. Separate essential conditions from preferences, and ask for any alternative packaging to be identified before you confirm the order.
Describe the packaging you need
A note such as “original packaging” may leave important details unclear. Say which labels, condition or presentation you need confirmed.
| Detail | What to include |
|---|---|
| Part number | Complete ordering code |
| Quantity and format | Units needed and preferred presentation |
| Condition | Whether unopened packaging or particular labels are required |
| Alternatives | Whether other packaging may be proposed |
| Supporting information | Label details, photographs or documents you need |
Separate requirements from preferences
Mark essential conditions clearly. Keep preferences in a separate note and ask about any detail you are unsure of.
- Add the complete MPN and quantity to your BOM.
- List essential packaging conditions.
- Add preferences and acceptable alternatives.
- Review proposed differences before ordering.
Example packaging request
Sample wording using a fictional part number: “EXAMPLE-PART-001; packaging labels requested for review; unopened packaging preferred; please identify any alternative packaging in the quotation.”
Use your purchasing requirements and check device-specific questions against the manufacturer documentation.
Confirm the proposed supply
Ask about packaging condition for the specific parts being quoted. A part-number listing does not show the condition of the proposed supply.
If you need inspection, include it in the same inquiry so the checks, cost and timing can be discussed together.
